Emsworth Picnic Association - Picnic Boat World Championships 2009                      

Notice of Race

3 July 2009

Chichester Harbour, England

 

Organising Authority and venue

The Organising Authority for the Championship is the Emsworth Picnic Association. The event will be sailed in Chichester Harbour.

 

1.      Rules

The race will be governed by the rules of IPIF, not that anyone knows what they are. Prescriptions of EPA will apply. There will be no apples. In cases of conflict the largest picnic basket will prevail.

 

2.      Eligibility and Conditions of Entry

2.1               The Championship is open to any type of boat not mainly used for, adapted for, or successful at racing.

2.2               Auxilliary powered support vessels will be welcome.

2.3               Entries will be accepted up to the day after the race.

2.4               There is no entry fee. Contribution towards audio visual displays (!) will be gratefully accepted on the night.

2.5               Measurement: please note that ¾ salmanazar =1 methuselah =2 jeroboams =4 magnums =8*.75l bottles

 

3.       Registration

Entrants may regster by e mailing Mark, Chips or Fi, address below.

 

4.         Sponsorship and advertising

4.1  The Championship will be category “C” for the purposes of RRS 79 and Appendix 1, Regulation 20

 

5.         Programme and Racing Schedule

 

5.1  Western Feeder Race A:  Working classes:

Start somewhere in the Solent and aim to arrive at East Head around 8 p.m.

 

5.2  Western Feeder Race B:  Leisured classes:

Start somewhere in the Solent and aim to arrive at Emsworth around 6 p.m.

 

5.3  Emsworth-East Head Passage Race:

Start Between EPiA starting vessel (TBC) and Emsworth mark “ NE Hayling“ (in vicinity of swear deep)

 

High Tide Portsmouth – 2144 BST

 

Fairy Ducklings start:            6.30 pm (ish)

All other Craft                      7.15 pm

Auxilliary powered vessels     7.30 pm

 

7.         Scoring

Handicapping will be self administered, according to the Emsworth Percentage Proof Yardstick System. (EPPYS). The event will be scored using the No Point scoring system of IPIF Appendix 0. One race is more than sufficient.

 

8.    Identification and Acknowledgement of Risk

8.1 It is for each owner/competitor to decide whether the boat and crew are fit to sail in the conditions in which they will find themselves, especially on the way home.

8.2  Each owner/competitor is entirely responsible for the contents of their own picnic.

 

9.         Compulsary Equipment

The organisers may inspect any boat, and/or her picnic equipment before, during or after the race. 

The following equipment is compulsary:

9.1               BBQ (fairy ducklings excempt)

9.2               Large picnic including min 1 punnet strawberries to EEC standard 49-4409-35 (a)

9.3               Emergency Pimms, insensible shoes, beer spectacles, woefully inadequate anchor.

9.4               Something to sleep in/on:  there will probably be spare room for those with craft without sleeping facilities.

 

10.       Prohibitions

Sobriety is strictly prohibited. Random testing may be in force.

 

11.       Course

Start somewhere between EpiA vessel and North East Hayling post (post with red hat, at 50º49.6΄N, 00º56.8΄W)

Marker Post: pass to port

Mill Rythe navigation mark (red): pass the port to the left.

NW Pilsey navigation mark (green): round of port c/w stilton.

Finish: present picnic basket abve HW mark East head beach, and have another Pimms

 

12.              Declarations

Examples of suitable declarations are “look at the size of that basket”, “You show me yours and I’ll show you mine”. As camping is not permitted at East Head, declarations with in tent should be avoided.
