15 January 2012 After a shifty and patchy week at the Paralympic classes world championships in Charlotte Harbour, Florida, Skandia Team GBR emerged with a Gold medal for the SCUD sailors Alex Rickham and Niki Birrell, and a Bronze for Sonar sailors John Robertson, Steve Thomas, and Hannah Stodel. (coached by Mark Rushall!). We are now on our way south to Miami for the Olympic Classes regatta, starting Monday. |

8 December 2011 Very busy few weeks on the voluntary work with RYA Council, Marketing Committee and the RYA Volunteers Awards ceremony. Really interesting to be involved with the RYA at this time of restructuring Council to create more effective ways of working - and looking forwards some effective debate, especially on how we build membership of the organisation. Also, it's fascinating to begin to understand the breadth and depth of the work of the RYA's various departments covering so many important issues for the welfare of our sport, such as safety, environment, and government agendas - before you begin to scratch the surface of the whole racing and cruising sector. |

10 September 2011 From a coaching perspective, the move of the day came from Dean Barker in the Red boat: setting himself up at the top of the run to protect the "go right" mark at the bottom: 3rd to first and a big enough gain to allow a covering tack on the next beat: game over! Think Mark might write a Y and Y article about that.... |
